How to safety-proof your Wellesley home?

Question: With a third child on the way, my husband and I have outgrown our Beacon Street, Boston apartment.  We’d love to move to a town like Wellesley.  I’m a woman who has  lived in  apartments her whole life.  What safety recommendations can you make concerning living in a house with three kids?

Bill’s Answer: Wellesley welcomes you and your family.  Wellesley is a wonderful town with a fabulous school system.

You can relax.  Any home that you purchase will be fully checked by a licensed home inspector.   The condition of the heating, plumbing and electrical systems will all be fully evaluated.

Now, your job as Mom.  Keep in mind that the most common accidents in home are caused by falls.  So, look for problems and remove clutter.  Again, relax, a well maintained and  organized Wellesley home should provide you and your family with many years of accident free happiness.
